CLC Weekly Updates

April 13 - 24, 2020

Hello all, I am very sorry I have not updated last week or earlier this week. This past week and a half has been busy gathering in all the seniors work, marking it and getting their report cards loaded up this morning. On Monday I posted their Personal Budget Project that is due next Wednesday. This is a great opportunity to talk with your child about what you think is important for their financial future. There are many parts to this project so I am sure your child will appreciate your insight.  Please as parents if you could encourage your children to check into their Teams account daily for any messages or announcements and to submit their assignments in a timely manner would be wonderful. I know technology sharing can be a struggle but I hope I have made it simple enough that they could print off an assignment (or write it out) and then complete it and later use a computer to upload it. They should also be able to use their phones for a lot of it. Please remember if there are any questions or concerns I am just an email away - click the button above this post and you have my email. I hope everyone is keeping well. "Be kind, Be calm, Be safe" Dr. Henry
April 5 - 10, 2020

This week students were to work on finishing up their Career Research Project and make sure it is submitted to their Teams assignment.
Also, if you are the parent of a Grade 12 student you should have received a couple emails from the school this week regarding scholarships (deadline this Friday), marks, graduations, and most important and very special - Mr. Tsang is going to do Social Distance Grad photos this weekend. Be sure to check the email so you know how to be included in this.

Enjoy the sunshine and have a Happy Easter!

March 29 - April 3, 2020
Hello,

I wanted to reach out and connect with you before the end of Spring Break. The message from the school and the district is that safety is the top priority. I hope everyone has had a restful Spring Break at home. It definitely has not been the same as other years. This has been a Spring Break that will be written into future history books. The next few weeks are going to be a learning curve for all of us. I know that many of you have questions, some there may not be answers for at this point. I hope that we can work through this together to best support our students, and each other. Here is a video message from Surrey Schools Superintendent, Jordan Tinney, with some information on the upcoming week:

As we temporarily move into remote learning, with students learning from home, it is important for us all to stay connected. We will be relying heavily on digital forms of communication such as MyBluePrint, email, and Office 365. The Surrey School district has made Office365 available for all students online through the SD36 HUB.

I ask you to please do the following things by Tuesday March 31st.
  1. Hello Email from Students: Please send me a hello email from your Surrey Schools Outlook Email (I believe it is what you use to log into the computers at school) The message can say anything- something you would like me to know, how you are feeling about all of this, questions you have – anything! In the subject line please put your first and last name and your block. You can access your school email by logging into office.com with your Surrey Schools email and clicking the Outlook tab.
  2. Please make sure you can sign into your SD36 Outlook account (I will be setting up classes in Teams) and your MyBluePrint account to ensure access to those platforms. If you have forgotten your passwords, or you have trouble logging in, please let me know.
I will know more on Tuesday afternoon after we have our online staff meeting and will email you Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning with any updates and hopefully some answers to any of your questions.

In the meantime, I want you to work on finishing up Career Research Project. This coming week was supposed to be work blocks anyway, so this works out not too bad. The only main change will be that your project is presented in a PowerPoint instead of on a poster board. Please make sure you are using your Office365 account and the programs within it so that everything opens and transfers properly from you to me. I will provide a due date in my email next week.
We have definitely learned the importance of current events and keeping on top details these past few weeks. There are so many things to learn and discuss from all the events that have taken place over the past couple weeks: health, mental health and wellness, budget (personal, business, provincial, national and global), careers etc.. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to discuss some of these over the next few weeks.
Take care and keep safe
